Can you test the fire alarm system without shutting down production?
Usually most of it, with planning. Panel diagnostics, battery testing, and visual inspections are quiet work. The functional testing that activates horns, strobes, and monitored relays is what needs coordination — we sequence it zone by zone, schedule it against your shifts or a planned shutdown, and agree on notifications with your supervisors in advance. We’ll be straight about the parts that genuinely require sound and interruption: the required testing comes from the fire code and NFPA 72 as adopted in your state and from your AHJ, and the plan starts from what the system actually requires rather than what’s convenient.
Dust keeps putting detectors into trouble or setting them off. What are our options?
Start with the honest diagnosis: which devices, in which conditions, how fast they load up. From there the realistic options are more frequent cleaning on a documented schedule, relocating devices that were placed without the process in mind, or changing the detection approach to something suited to the environment — the right answer depends on the hazard, the device listings, the adopted codes, and your AHJ, so we won’t spec it by guesswork from this page. What we’ll tell you plainly is what not to do: bagging or disconnecting a detector to quiet it and leaving it that way is how a space ends up unprotected with nobody noticing. If devices need protection during dusty work, that belongs under a managed impairment with restoration documented.
Our carrier’s loss-control engineer left a list of recommendations. Where do we start?
Sort the letter by trade before anything else — carrier recommendations usually mix fire alarm items with sprinkler, extinguisher, and housekeeping items that belong to different contractors. We take the fire alarm scope, tell you which items are genuine system deficiencies versus documentation gaps, quote the corrections, and do the work. Just as important, we produce the completion documentation in a form you can send back to the carrier, because an item corrected without a paper trail tends to reappear in next year’s letter.
Can you monitor our freezers, coolers, and unheated spaces too?

The panel showed a trouble during second shift. Is that an emergency?
A trouble signal means the system is reporting a problem with itself — a ground fault, an open circuit, a communicator failure, a low battery — not a fire.
